How can graphite molds be cleaned?

In general, when the molding process operation is completed, it will often leave dirt or residue on the graphite mold (with certain chemical composition and physical characteristics).For different types of residues, the ultimate cleaning requirements are not the same.Resins such as PVC produce hydrogen chloride gas, which then corrodes many types of graphite die steels.Other residues are separated from flame retardants and antioxidants and can corrode steel.Some pigments also rust steel, and the rust is difficult to remove.Even the general sealed water, if placed on the surface of the untreated graphite mold for a long time, will also cause damage to the graphite mold.

Therefore, the graphite mold should be cleaned according to the established production cycle.Every time the graphite mold is taken out from the press, the porosity of the graphite mold should be first opened to remove all oxidized dirt and rust stains in the non-critical areas of the graphite mold and template, so as to prevent it from slowly corroding the steel surface and edge.In many cases, even after cleaning, some uncoated or easily rusted graphite molds will soon rust again.Therefore, even if it takes a long time to wash the unprotected graphite mold, the appearance of rust can not be completely avoided.

Today, many graphite molds come with "self-cleaning" vent lines that have a high gloss.After cleaning and polishing the vent hole to reach the polishing degree of SPI#A3, or after milling or grinding, the residue is discharged to the waste area of the ventilation line to prevent the residue from adhering to the appearance of the roughing mill stand.But if the operator chooses coarse washing gasket, emery cloth, sandpaper, grindstone or brush with nylon bristle, brass or steel to grind the graphite mold manually, it will cause excessive "cleaning" of the graphite mold.
